Grace

Currently re-reading a book by Philip Yancey called What's so amazing about Grace? and once again I can sense the Almighty working through the words that fill the book's pages.

Coming into work on the bus I read again some descriptions of grace at work (based on a few of the original parables of Jesus, but brought up to date and into modern context) and I physically feel the raw emotion behind the events being described and am somehow touched by God's presence through the words.

Sounds nuts, I would have scoffed myself a few months ago, but it's absolutely not something I'm making up.

The book is about grace, actually one of the most dangerous aspects of christianity - what other word describes the idea of being totally undeserving and yet receiving free stuff? Like finding 20 bucks in the pocket of a shirt you've just bought, which 'co-incidentally' cost you 20 bucks. More radically, grace is what God is using when he forgives a mass murderer, when all the world cannot find any forgiveness for those terrible acts.

I guess quite importantly, this book not only gives a huge insight into grace at work, it can paint a pretty interesting picture of God and provide the reader with the start of an understanding about who God is.

That alone is worth everything and more than the world can offer.
