Do most of them even know why they're celebrating, is it just cos the Irish are such lovable rogues? Is it just a wafer-thin excuse to get trollied?
Frankly, speaking as an Englishman, its all bollox. A bit like all those idiots coming out supporting Man United without having any allegiance to the place or the inhabitants.
I realise this looks like a pretty antagonistic attack on people just taking the opportunity (afforded by a 'seemingly' common cause) to enjoy themselves together. Its not meant to be that, more a desire to see people celebrate their own tribe's positive standing and not latch onto another's, because they can't find something about their own culture that they think deserves celebrating. Almost without question can you find something worth holding aloft about your own origins, something to be grateful for and to raise a glass to.
Personally, I feel happy that not everyone in England shies away from celebrating St Georges Day and doesn't let the Political Correctness loonies spoil the celebration of a great nation. Like most places, England has problems, but it also has a great deal of good stuff to feel proud of.
Bottom line - don't follow the herd, unless you like being a sheep.
