Big Chef versus Little Chef

... or "Marcus' review of last night's telly!"

In case you're not sure what I'm referring to, its this and its been on since Monday night.

Who is Heston? What is Little Chef? Get googling, if you need to!

I was pleased to see Heston admit failure with his first attempt to rejuvenate the menu and return to the drawing board: I was less pleased to see 'Ian', the head of Little Chef, clearly dodging some of Heston's key requirements and apparently utilising the whole thing as just a PR stunt. And, comedy gold, did you clock the 'team' that Ian brought along to last night's meeting with Heston and the Hind's Head - one guy in particular had the expression of a confused gerbil caught in the headlights! Most unfortunate. Yes I know its not his fault. :-)

Whilst I did enjoy the story of Heston's renewed attempt to come up with a winning breakfast menu, the adoption of one of Little Chef's 'old timers', who would be Heston's champion and consequently spread the word to all the other staff, was just too close to Jamie Oliver's Ministry of Food, I mean COME ON Channel 4, blatant rip-off!

Whilst I have huge respect for Heston and the skills he's clearly built up, he feels a bit more like a super-chemist than a chef, and he's a bit lacking in charisma to take on Rammo or Oliver in the arena of tv, though I suppose time will tell if he finds appeal on the goggle-box (there, showing my age!) with greater screen exposure.
