Feeling homesick

It seems like a while since I've actually felt homesick, but for one reason or another I am at the moment.

Can't really say what it is that's causing the feeling, I suppose you often can't put it down to one particular thing or another. I mean I really don't miss the North-West's drizzle and the short winter nights that used to wear me slowly down. And the utter absence of road congestion is nice. People are pretty friendly on the whole, there are fewer problems with violence and other nasty societal diseases, no worries about terrorism - barely anyway, the place was in uproar last week cos a few busies got dressed up in Darth Vader SWAT outfits and hassled some activists.

Generally though, no such bother, not like UK or US. Seriously, the police around Wellington clearly don't have enough real crime to solve, they're always out catching people doing 10 km/h over the paltry 100 km/h limit, or whatever.

Maybe its an 'age' thing - not me :-) the country I mean!

Being used to somewhere that proudly boasts buildings and venues that go back hundreds of years, as opposed to somewhere where you'll struggle to find structures much over a hundred years old, maybe that's a factor. Dunno why though.

Maybe its simply friends back home and the cosy familiarity of mates who you have lots in common with - not to mention family of course!

Hang on, I know what it is - I think I've just found the crux of it.

There aren't any real decent old pubs! Yes that's it, sorted! Obvious really... :-)
Don't know what I'm going on about...
