So Waitangi Day was yesterday, the public holiday here to celebrate the signing of a famous treaty back in the 1840s (I think).
As such, there are events organised all around the country that bring people together in some kind of relaxed, entertaining atmosphere.
At Elsdon Park in Porirua yesterday there was a fair with live music, various stalls and some rides. The weather did its part and the place was bathed in blue skies and bright sunshine, with a cool breeze. The church I go to did their part with free face-painting for kids and 'Kings Church' balloons on sticks that I helped to blow up. Feels like I'm still getting my breath back even now!
Took some photos of the day, which I've yet to review, so I might (or might not) post a few in the next day or so.
