Words somewhat fail me, having now read through the words of one greater than me in wisdom about prayer and the nature of prayer.
C H Spurgeon is a long read, but worth it, for it focuses precisely on what prayer means and, importantly, how to tackle it - something I know I find tricky.
Valuable words, which I hope I can begin to work on and integrate into my being.

Well, I'd hate to go on the plane, that requires everyone to believe that the plane is going to fly or else it would fall down.
There are things that can be affected by thinking - such as forcing yourself to act, but come on, you cannot seriously believe that the 10000 casualties in China could have been easily prevented by some true believer praying to Jesus?
Praying and thousands of deaths
Truly, disaster and suffering are one of the biggest things that seem to blow away any credibility in faith in a loving God. I know and I still struggle with this aspect.
And I don't have the answer, all I can trust is that He cares for every single one of us and that that nonetheless doesn't contradict natural disasters, wars, famine and so forth.
Consider also that it is not for man to try and comprehend the ways of God, or for us to say that everything bad that happens could have been avoided if He cared to stop it.
I'm moved that you care to comment on this topic, not least because it means you're not totally disinterested in God - and your comments might well have come from my mouth if we rolled the clock back about a year.
